photo collage in word-

have you done this before? Made a photo collage in word?

We cover it in the book, and it's my favorite thing. Insert photos into a word document and arrange in an artful way, then print out on 8.5x11 photo paper. I'm actually working on an on-line class right now for mosh-posh that will cover this. I'll update when that is ready.

I also want to share a crazy fast photo editing tip today. Using microsoft office picture manager I edit photo>color>adjust saturation. I just adjust down somewhere between 60-95% desaturated to get the tinted look I want. I *Love* tinted photos and this is so easy and quick I can do it on my laptop (no photoshop required!) Here's me and Aud at CHA doing a book signing!

to a relaxing weekend...hopefully I'll be able to play with some new scrap goodies.
Speaking of new scrapbooking items, there are several new paper lines out on the market that work exceptionally well with the kits from the book. These papers (the black grid and the teal paper behind the photo) are from Amy Teets' new line with Dream Street Papers called "Remember the Moments." They coordinate beautifully with Lauren Reid's "Authentic Me" kit found in the book. Again, this was one of those pages that was really simple to complete. I just opened up a word document and then opened a number of the elements from the kit and printed everything out on one sheet. From there, it was simply a matter of mixing and matching to get the design I wanted. I added some bling by MME and some paper flowers from Prima, as well as some rubon stitches from Daisy D's to finish out the design.

make the most of the bad background...

Sm butterfly

I added some butterfly overlays (by Katie Pertiet- www.designerdigitals.com) to this photo to cover some of the living room background and keep the focus on the fairy princess dancing in the middle. I also added 2 frames (one decorative, one grunge). All of these were black to start with- I simply changed to white since it worked better for me. in PSE (enhance>color>saturation then lighten 100%)

My note today would be to not automatically crop that bad background. Use it for some digital art before printing out the photo!

Ruffle butt

This is the page I made at CHA when Audrey and I (May) did our demo hour at the Memory Makers booth. I used a lace from the book CD (and drug onto photo multiple times to create frame). I also used a stamp block from the book CD for my journaling block.

One of my favorite things about working on the book- and hybrid scrapbooking in general- is that you can sometimes do a little bit, or sometimes a lot. Mix it up, play with your paper and digital supplies, and HAVE FUN!!! :)

Monday, Monday...

It's the beginning of a new week around here. May kicked off a really fun challenge last week -- I hope to see some great layouts linked up here in the coming days.

One of my favorite things about working on this book with May was being able to get some of the best designers in the digital scrapbooking industry to create EXCLUSIVE digital kits for the book. We wanted to be able to offer our readers everything they would need to get started right away -- that meant no wasted time trying to find downloadable digital elements and kits. These 10 kits are packed with a variety of styles, and I know you're going to love being able to have kits by Michelle Coleman and Jackie Eckles (both of whom design for Fancy Pants), Jen Wilson (who designs for My Mind's Eye) and Katie Pertiet (who designs for Autumn Leaves), plus the other fantastic designers we've included -- kits that aren't available anywhere else.

Speaking of Michelle Coleman, here is a really quick and easy hybrid project that I created using a new product that's available in her store at Little Dreamer Designs. These "Cheeky Little Notebook Covers" make altering small flip-style or composition-style notebooks a breeze, and they are the perfect size to stick in your purse or pocket. They come with instructions on how to create them in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, but I'm here to tell you that you can also open these .png files in Microsoft Word, resize them, and print them out. Just open a new Word document, choose Insert>Picture>From file and then navigate to the correct folder. Remember, if you are resizing an image in Word, you want to hold down the shift button while you manipulate the corner handles so that you don't stretch the proportions. You can even add your own text to the front cover by inserting a text box (make sure you change the line and fill options to no line and no fill to make it transparent). Have fun!

Sisters page and Challenge #1

May here- this is a page that didn't make it into the book- but I love it! The digital techniques used are using the blur tool/lasso/blur filters to clean up an ugly background, tinting photos. , and adding a digital frame to a photo.

Supplies: paper, rub-ons, ribbon: Fancy Pants, stamp: Fontwerks, epoxy sticker, scallop paper: Karen Russell Naratives, brads- Making Memories, pen- Sakura.

This is one of my favorite photos, but the shoes and chairs in the background have always bothered me. The lasso/selection tools allow you to select a portion of your photo to edit. In this photo I blurred out a foot and other icky background stuff. We were at a baseball game and did not expect to get such a nice photo sitting in the stands!

Note: v_5.jpeg I felt like the black and white was a bit cold, and I wanted to warm up the photo by adding some red tint. To do this go to : enhance>adjust color>color variations. This will allow you to adjust the color levels and intensity as desired.

My challenge to you is to create a layout with a tinted photo. In the book (page 28-29) I have an example with tinted photos (3 colors, same photo!) Be sure to share your creations with us!
